Advocate for nature preserve rallied support at Sanders' Sheboygan event

Mary Faydash, leader of efforts by the grassroots group Friends of the Black River Forest to prevent construction of a high-end, privately-owned golf course on a water-and-dune-rich 247-acre wooded nature preserve in Sheboygan County along Lake Michigan, was given time at Friday's Bernie Sanders for President event in Sheboygan to make her case.

The nature preserve is a Kohler family property; the golf course project would extend into the adjoining and popular Kohler Andrae State Park.

Golf course construction at the site would require permit approvals from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the US Army Corps of Engineers.

The DNR is preparing an Environmental Impact Statement analysis of the project, given its many land use, water, traffic and additional public policy concerns.
